Welcome Rishana – our Sustainability Intern

We are happy to welcome Rishana Basheer to Hammarviken. During the spring, she is part of our team as a sustainability intern and works closely with Månstråle, our Head of Sustainability. Together, they focus on strengthening our sustainability work – from preparations for our first sustainability report to structure, data and practical sustainability matters in our day-to-day operations.

Rishana is 24 years old and originally from India. She is currently in her second term of the master’s programme Sustainable Development at the University West in Trollhättan. Family is very important to her – at the moment, she lives in Sweden together with her husband, while her son is temporarily staying in India with her parents. This summer, the family will be reunited in Sweden. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, watching films, travelling and exploring nature.

From India to Sweden – with sustainability in focus

Rishana moved to Sweden for her studies, but choosing Sweden was also about the culture. She describes the Swedish work environment as open and balanced, with clear differences compared to her previous work experience in India. One Swedish concept that quickly made an impression on her is fika – taking a break, socialising with colleagues and simply slowing down for a moment.

Before moving to Sweden, Rishana worked as a journalist in India. Her interest in social development has stayed with her, but today with a clear focus on sustainability. For her, sustainability is about finding the right balance between innovation and responsibility:

“We need development and innovation, but not at the expense of nature. We can’t be selfish in the way we develop society.”

She explains that it was precisely this perspective that made Hammarviken a natural choice when applying for internships. She was drawn to our family-owned, values-driven and hands-on approach to sustainability.

Her internship at Hammarviken

Rishana is completing her internship with us between January and June as part of her second academic term. During this time, she is involved in several parts of our sustainability work. She supports the development of our first sustainability report, works with data review and structure in Stratsys, and maps regulations, laws and sustainability frameworks – both for her own learning and to help support our portfolio companies going forward.

The internship is also about preparing for working life and gaining a clearer understanding of how sustainability work is carried out in practice, while also giving her the opportunity to further develop her Swedish in a professional environment.

We are very happy to have Rishana with us and look forward to following her journey this spring.
