The construction of the first stage started in 2001, and around 2031 the whole area is expected to be completed. When finished, Västra Hamnen is expected to accommodate around twenty thousand residents and almost as many jobs.

Stavdal in Malmö is involved in delivering to three different residential projects; Veidekke's projects kv Barcelona and kv Klyvaren 2, as well as Ikanos' project kv Parken. The total construction value of the projects exceeds 500 million kronor. Stavdal delivers environmental cabins, fall protection, temporary electricity, and all other necessary equipment to the projects.

The projects Kvarteret Barcelona and Kvarteret Parken are expected to be ready for occupancy by early 2016.
